Apex U | Index

Alkhazir, a man with no memory of his past, awakes amidst a deranged war between a scientist and the Confederacy's ace commander: TPC. Whilst struggling with tattered memories of his alien past he stands at the forefront of a crossing of swords between worlds young and ancient, hoping to bring justice to them both.

Apex U is based on a mix of rewritten Starcraft lore, pet projects, community personas, and anime inspiration. It is divided into Segments which are thought of as lengthy chapters. Apex originated as a Starcraft 2 campaign but morphed into Light Novel/Unreal 4 projects.  The Light Novel is treated absently while Unreal 4 spearheads my remaining productivity that doesn't go into videos. Segments for the Light Novel, once completed, are available free for download here. Note that this writing is considerably less polished and complete than previous ventures.

Apex U - Light Novel

Each segment has an associated developer commentary, as well as a version number that represents the current variant of the document. Documents are released more loosely than my other works, and may be edited or iterated upon in future releases.

SEGMENT 0 - (Version 1.0)

Unreal 4 Development

Unreal 4 development represents the pinnacle of my understanding of technical skills. It is followed closely by a video developer series covering my learning, development, and design processes, with extensive discussion about subjects visited in the Educational Series. This segment is labelled A-U-D-SegX to help identify it from previous Apex releases.

A-U-D-Seg1 - 1.3gb

Apex originated as a project concept for Starcraft 2 that pursued six years in development and research before being discontinued. The campaign was divided into Segments, with each segment occupying roughly 12-14 missions. Portions of script were heavily adapted into different iterations, such as an audiobook iteration, a CGI iteration (Apex H), and Unreal 4 game iterations. For a full summary of the originations of every portion and a discussion on how they were designed and created you may refer to a developer commentary provided for each segment.

In much the sense of forum games and things to follow, the impersonations of community members is intended to be fantastical and non-serious.

Old developer videos for the Starcraft 2 version are available for those interested.

Episode 1 - The Apex AI

I discuss the long road it took to reach the end of 2015, the functions behind Apex's various AI iterations and why the U variant was pivotal in enabling the project concept.

Episode 1 - Intro to B&D

I introduce the Build & Destroy concept and show 0x05, the test map that killed the previous iterations of the project.
