Nightmare Gatekeeper: Death - Anubis is the Gatekeeper of the concept of Death and passage to the afterlife. His domain is the dead, specifically dead whose bodies have been preserved in some manner such as embalming, stasis, etc. His domain is stronger in bodies whose essence is marked in the concept of the cesation of life - immortal bodies, such as Primals, are weaker than mortal bodies. Anubis is akin to the ferryman of the dead, and weighs the values of the dead. Osaka viewed him as a neutral spirit, but the fall of Osaka and the rampant death twisted their beliefs, and his creation warped him into "Ferryman whom calls to the Living".

Familiars - Anubis cannot project a Familiar, but he can choose an Avatar from his library. While an Avatar is active, the Mystic Eye of Death Perception is inactive. If the Avatar's true body is active then the Eye is still active.

Nightmare Anubis Avatars -

Yuni Meng, Daughter of the Emperor

Ruutsah, Son of Odin

Nightmare Jebrefekt

Richard Crimes (ded)

Aura of Eternally Preserved Death - Any living, unwarded unit whom begins their turn or enters within 15 of Anubis is afflicted by 1d10 Bane.

Death Domain (Anubis) - When Anubis is in his Domain (Contest +10 (CHA)) he gains the following benefits.

  • When a creature dies in Anubis' domain that was Living, Anubis gains Extra Attack for his next round. Stacks.
  • All Nightmares within the domain are granted Zombie effect, and make CON saves with Advantage versus the damage dealt to kill them. If they succeed, they survive with 1 hp.
  • Living creatures whom die within the domain make Death Saves with Disadvantage, but enter a Death-like coma when they die. Revive spells have no effect on such creatures - they die if Anubis dies, upon which case they can be revived. Coma'd creatures can be revived instead with a DC 20 Medicine check or by using a medical kit of some nature.

Attacks -

Descent of Osaka - Blasts units in 30ft 5ft linetrace from Anubis with a black wind. DC 10-15-20 CON save vs 16d6/9d6/6d6 +1d10 High Function Necrotic damage. The Black Wind always critically strikes Constructs and Unconscious units.

Soul Crusher - Attempts to destroy the life support of a Living unit by touching it. +10 to hit, DC 20 CON save.

< 10 - 3 levels of Exhaustion, Necrotic vulnerability and 20d4+2d10 High Function Necrotic damage.

< 15 - 2 levels of Exhaustion, 14d4+2d10 High Function Necrotic damage.

< 20 - 1 level of Exhaustion 10d4+1d10 High Function Necrotic damage.

20+ - 8d4+1d6 High Function Necrotic damage.

Oblivion Gaze - Creatures up to 120ft away from Anubis within a cone are attacked with phantom blades radiated from Anubis' eyes. +10 to hit, 10d4+3d6 High Function Force damage.

Abilities -

Weighing of the Heart (Nightmare) - Anubis chooses a Living, Unwarded unit within 10ft. That unit makes a DC 24 WIS save. Failure curses that unit to be devoured by shadows, and they suffer 3d20+2d4 High Function Necrotic damage each turn for 5 turns. Should they still be conscious when the Curse ends, or Succeed the save, they are healed for 3d20+2d4. The Remove Curse DC is 16. Ineffective in Radiant domain.

Mystic Eye of Death Perception - Ambient Effect - Anubis' third eye can see into the living and abstract concepts of death. It is less effective than the Horseman of Death, being only a Gatekeeper's replica, but is bolstered by the potency of the Boundary and mirror reflection.

Vs Avatars/Familiars - Avatars and Familiars must make a DC 24 CHA save upon being beheld in the Eye of Death Perception in 30ft. Failure to do so will result in 20d12 High Function Necrotic damage. Unwarded Familiars are instantly banished.

Vs Living Creatures - Living creatures must make a DC 24 CHA save at the end of every round while being beheld by the Eye of Death Perception in 15ft. Upon failure, they receive 20d4 High Function Necrotic damage. Warded living creatures make the save with Advantage and suffer only 10d4 upon failure.

Vs Constructs - Inflicts a special construct-only Exhaustion on Constructs, symbolizing the passage of time and decay of materials. Ineffective against High Function materials. Constructs must make the same DC 24 CHA save - those that cannot make the save automatically fail. The Exhaustion functions similarly to the Creature condition, except it completely destroys the construct when it stacks high enough.

Mystic Eye of Death Perception - Active Effect -

As a Bonus Action, Anubis can empower any spell or melee attack to strike with the accuracy of death itself. Opponents must make a DC 24 CHA save, or the Eye will guarantee a critical hit if the attack or spell lands. The unit must be in LOS of the Eye and the Eye must not be Blinded.
